"They left grenades. They knew it was my house." Usyk says Russian occupiers wanted to kill him

Usyk's house seized by Russian troops

The Russian invaders, who seized the house of Ukrainian unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, left "surprises" for the athlete after he fled Kyiv. The so-called soldiers of the Russian army smashed the building and the yard, and tied grenades to the trees.

Usyk himself spoke about this in an interview with the Polish edition of Przegląd Sportowy. Our boxer noted that after returning to Kyiv, he came to Worzel and saw with his own eyes the pogrom that the aggressors had organised. Oleksandr had to call the police and sappers to record the crimes of the Russians.

"The rocket hit a house that was 250 metres from my house... And in my house, the Russian 'neighbours' left many surprises, such as grenade tripwires. Not only did they make a mess - they destroyed the house from the inside, smashed everything, polluted it, stole it, and left grenades there. I saw them with my own eyes. I went there with sappers and the police. I have recordings on my phone. You can see the RGD grenades tied to a tree. They knew it was my house because there was a man with them, I don't know if he was Ukrainian or Russian, who told them it was my house. Our neighbour was present during this conversation. The man said: "But this is Usyk's house!"," said the Ukrainian champion.

Last spring, pictures and videos from Vorzel were shown by Usyk's wife Kateryna. She was not shy in her statements about the Russian military. "Russian world! He came to me! Bastards! They just ruined everything, as usual. The bastards, they even threw a feast! How stupid they are! Beggars!" - the boxer's wife wrote on Instagram. The footage shows that the occupiers wrote symbols of their crimes in Ukraine on the gates of Usyk's house.

Earlier, Usyk tried to justify his godfather Vasyl Lomachenko, who actively promotes pro-Russian narratives, by saying that he supports Ukraine. And former Ukrainian national footballer Artem Fedetsky shared the details of Usyk's trip to the front.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk has announced a new date for Oleksandr Usyk's next fight, which he plans to hold in a country neighbouring Ukraine. Our boxer himself spoke about the fight against British Tyson Fury.
