The world sports legend spoke out against Russia, which "advertises war, crimes and genocide"
The legendary hockey goalkeeper Dominik Hasek has taken a strong stance on Russia's participation in foreign sports tournaments. The Nagano 98 Olympic champion called on all civilized countries to stop supporting Russia in the international arena.
"Every country in the world, without exception, uses its famous and successful citizens (e.g., athletes) to advertise (or promote) its actions and thus advance its interests. Unfortunately, in the case of today's Russia, these actions are war, crimes, and genocide. We have to stop this advertising (in our world)," Gashek wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
As we reported, earlier Gasek said that Russians have no right to play in international tournaments "until they leave Ukraine and put Putin on trial." For this, CSKA's honorary president Boris Mikhailov attacked the Czech with insults.
It is worth noting that Gashek has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine. After a trip to Kyiv and Kharkiv last summer, he recorded a video message to Ukrainians, wishing them to "drive the Russian sh*t away."
On January 25, two-time Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov lashed out at Gashek for commenting on the full-scale invasion, saying that Fetisov "raised his hand in the Duma for Russia's aggressive position, and therefore is directly responsible for everything that is happening."
