The world kickboxing champion died during a fight. The moment was caught on video
Kanat Akhunov, the world and Asian youth kickboxing champion, died during a regional championship in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The 17-year-old athlete was competing in the heavyweight division.
The video, which spread on social media, shows that at some point in the fight, Akhunov was hit in the stomach and fell unconscious. His coach and medical staff immediately run up to him, take off his helmet and remove his mouth guard, trying to bring him back to consciousness.
Alvin Agayev, Akhunov's coach, said that before the tragic fight, his client had managed to have one match, which he won in 20 seconds.
"He came out for the second fight and showed his capabilities. But in the middle of the match, I saw that he was not the same as before. When I asked him, "How do you feel?", he replied: "I'm fine, I'll continue." He took a breath. I splashed some water on him, and he went back to the fight. After about 30 seconds, it all happened," said the coach.
Agayev pointed out that the video clearly showed the athlete staggering before being hit by an opponent. During the fall, he injured his eyebrow. According to the coach, the deceased had been training under his guidance for the past 3 months and had never complained about his health.
He noted that the athlete had achieved significant success in kickboxing and that Akhunov had no health problems before the competition.
"The ambulance arrived within 10-15 minutes. Then he was taken to the intensive care unit. They say they did everything possible. The doctors explained that the cause of death was a cardiac arrest," oqu.news quoted Agayev as saying.
