The International Federation, which arranged meanness to Ukraine, has been seized by the Russians
Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov has once again become the head of the International Fencing Federation (FIE), TASS propaganda reports. The election took place in Tashkent, where Usmanov received 120 votes, significantly outpacing his opponent, Swedish Fencing Federation President Otto Drakenberg, who received 26 votes.
After his election, Usmanov expressed his gratitude to all national federations that supported his candidacy, noting that the decision to run "was a response to the trust of the international community." He emphasized the importance of strengthening fencing's position on the world stage and promised to "make every effort for its further development."
Usmanov also mentioned the sanctions that were imposed on him earlier, calling them unjustified. He assured that he will do everything possible to ensure that these measures do not affect the activities of the FIE.
Usmanov had been heading the FIE since 2008. On March 1, 2022, he voluntarily suspended his duties as president of the organization due to EU sanctions.
Earlier, the famous Ukrainian fencer Olha Harlan admitted that the FIE was doing mean things trying to get athletes from Russia and Belarus back to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. To do this, the organization's leadership postponed qualifying competitions, breaking the calendar and framing representatives of Ukraine and other countries.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, on March 10, the FIE became the first to allow representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus to participate in international tournaments. This caused an angry reaction in the world, and many countries refused to participate or hold competitions under the auspices of the organization. In addition, at the Grand Prix in South Korea, the FIE banned the symbols of Ukraine.
In the round of 32 of the 2023 World Championships in Milan, Harlan defeated Russian Anna Smirnova. After the fight, our compatriot refused to shake hands with her opponent, who staged a real circus, refusing to leave the track.
A representative of the Russian Federation filed a protest against the result of the duel, which was rejected. The propaganda TV channel Match TV published a photo of the denunciation that Anna Smirnova wrote against Olga. As a result, the FIE disqualified Harlan from the 2023 World Cup after pressure from Russia, but suspended its decision the next day.
Yuri Gelman, the senior coach of the US national fencing team, said that the decision to punish the Ukrainian saber fencer was made by Moscow.
