"The height of cynicism!" Russia is outraged that the Czech Republic has surpassed Russia in the number of World Cup hockey medals
The former head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Andrey Nazarov, has called the World Ice Hockey Championship that ended in the Czech Republic the day before inferior. The native of Chelyabinsk spoke dismissively of the tournament, as is traditional for Russian representatives, complaining about the alleged politicization of the sport.
Nazarov said this in a commentary to Championat.com. The former Russian hockey player and coach of a number of Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) clubs accused the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) of a cynical attitude towards representatives of the aggressor country.
This attitude on his part towards the IIHF was caused by the victory of the Czech national team at the 2024 World Championships, which thanks to this bypassed the Russians in the number of medals at world championships (14 vs. 13). "The victory of the Czech national team at the World Championship without the participation of the Russian national team cannot be complete. We have already said that excluding the national team for political reasons that have nothing to do with sports is the height of cynicism," Nazarov said.
Earlier, two-time Olympic champion Boris Mikhailov made a nonsense claim that Russia's suspension ruined the 2024 World Cup.
As OBOZ.UA reported, a historical record of the competition was set at the 2024 World Ice Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic.
