The champion of Ukraine, who was searched for for six months, has died: the European medalist fought in Zaporizhzhia region

Dmytro Hubanov, a multiple champion of Ukraine and winner of the European Rowing Championships, was killed in the battles with the Russian occupiers in Zaporizhzhia region. The National Guard soldier stopped communicating in early August 2023. For six months, the fate of the athlete was unknown. And only in March did we receive confirmation that the 28-year-old defender was no longer alive.

Hubanov is a native of Mykolaiv, where he graduated from the local school No. 16. Since childhood, he was engaged in rowing. Dmytro was a multiple champion of Ukraine, as well as a bronze medalist at the European Under-19 Championships and a finalist at the World Under-23 Championships.

For his achievements, Hubanov was awarded the title of Master of Sports of Ukraine. His personal coach was Valentyna Buravkova.

After the full-scale Russian attack in February 2022, Hubanov was one of the first to defend his country. The rower from Mykolaiv served in the National Guard. The 28-year-old athlete took part in fierce battles in the hottest spots in eastern and southern Ukraine.

On August 2, 2023, during a mission in the Zaporizhzhia sector, Dmytro stopped contacting us. All these months, his family was waiting for at least some news and did not give up hope that the defender was still alive. However, in early March it became known that the rower was killed during his last battle on August 3.

The 28-year-old Dmytro is survived by his daughter and beloved wife Daryna, who was also an academic rower for many years.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that a former champion of Ukraine, who celebrated his anniversary in January, was killed in the battle for Avdiivka. The defender ran into an enemy subversive group and bled to death.
