Swimmer from Mariupol refused to take joint photo with the Russian at 2024 Paralympics award ceremony
Ukrainian swimmer Oleksandr Komarov refused to take a joint photo with Russian Kirill Pulver during the awards ceremony at the 2024 Paralympic Games. In this way, our compatriot demonstrated his attitude to the representative of the aggressor country and his participation in the tournament in the French capital.
Komarov won a bronze medal in the 200-meter freestyle among athletes with musculoskeletal disorders. The 36-year-old native of Mariupol showed impressive 2:30. He lost to Pulver, who came in second, and Italian Francesco Bocciardo, who took first place.
After the national anthem in honor of the winner was played at the award ceremony, Komarov did not approach his rivals for a joint photo but remained at a distance from them. At the same time, our swimmer congratulated Bocciardo on his victory separately.
"What are the emotions of getting into the top 3 with a Russian? Unfortunately, our enemies were allowed to participate in the Paralympic Games, and we won't put up with it. But we have a clear goal, as always, to fight for victory with everyone," the Ukrainian commented for Suspilne Sport.
It should be noted that after the first day of the 2024 Paralympics, Ukraine ranks 16th in the medal standings with four awards.
