Svitolina started the US Open with a solid victory
Ukraine's first racket Elina Svitolina (No. 26 WTA) successfully overcame the first round of the US Open tennis championship with a prize fund of 65 million dollars. The 28-year-old Odesa native defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam (#90 WTA) from Germany 6:3, 6:1 at the start of the US Open.
Our compatriot demonstrated excellent quality of play, giving her opponent only 4 games. It took Elina exactly one hour to deal with the German.
Svitolina started at the US Open for the tenth time in her career. The best result for the Ukrainian was the semifinal of 2019.
Svitolina's next opponent will be determined in the match between Anastasia Pavliuchenkova and Fiona Crowley (USA, Q). This match will start on the night of August 30.
