She failed to make a comeback: Svitolina fails to reach Wimbledon 2023 final
Ukraine's top-ranked player Elina Svitolina failed to reach the Grand Slam final for the first time in her career. In the battle for a ticket to the decisive match of the Wimbledon 2023 British Open tennis championships, the Odesa woman lost to Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic 3-6, 3-6.
The athletes gave the fans a spectacular game that lasted 74 minutes. In the middle of the first set, the rivals exchanged breaks, and then the Czech took two more serves from Svitolina and managed to take the game.
It was not easy for the Ukrainian to play against the left-handed Marqueta, who also played power tennis. In addition, our compatriot was let down by her first serve.
In the second game, Svitolina continued to make unforced errors, which eventually amounted to 24 in her passive for the match. After losing the second game on her serve, our compatriot frankly crumbled, letting the Czech go down 0-4.
After that, the Ukrainian won three games in a row and had a chance to catch up with Vondroušová, but lost her serve. It was thanks to this that the Czech put an end to the match.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the organisers of Wimbledon 2023 categorically responded to Elina Svitolina's call to make an official statement about the attitude of Ukrainian women to Russians and Belarusians.
