World wheelchair fencing champion Roman Fedyaev considers the performance of Russian athletes under a neutral flag or their change of citizenship to be a betrayal. The native of Moscow, who previously played for Kazakhstan and then returned to the Russian team, added that the decision to participate in the Games 2024 in Paris will be made by dictator Vladimir Putin.

Fedyaev said this in an interview with News.ru. He noted that he receives many offers to go to some other national team, but the fencer does not refuse them, but simply cites inflated financial requirements.

"I keep getting offers from different countries, but I don't go. I name such a price tag that everyone refuses. I guess you can call me a cottonmouth, I love my country, I grew up here, fell in love, got married, got divorced! This is my country. I'm not a sports hooker to run away somewhere. Especially now. Now it's wartime, the politics have changed. And you can't just go somewhere under a neutral flag. Who will I be then? A traitor. That would be a spit in the heart of a lot of people. Paris 2024? It would all depend on the general decision. On what the president says," Fedyaev said.

Earlier, Russian athletes who received admission to the tournaments of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) refused to participate in them.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov hinted that Russia will boycott the Games in Paris.
