Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that Russia's victory at the Second CIS Games once again confirmed the country's greatness. Athletes from the Russian Federation won 288 medals, taking first place in the final medal list.
"In a highly competitive environment, the Russian national team became the leader in the team event, winning 288 medals, and confirmed its status as a major sports power. But the main thing is that events of this magnitude become a powerful impetus for the development of multilateral relations between states in the field of physical culture and sports," Matytsin said in an interview with Russian propagandists, causing a strong reaction from the fans.
Russian sports fans ridiculed the official's pathos.
"Wow... they won several kilos of medals at competitions that no one has heard of. That's pretty impressive. You can play the greatness song again," the users sneered.
Users wonder why such "super important" games were not shown on any TV channel.
Fans have no doubt that Matytsin made this statement solely for the sake of propaganda.
"Volleyball was on the programme. Games of teams under 21. So not only are the participating teams full of shit, but, for example, the UAE brought an under-18 team to "such an important tournament", but these cardboard cotton wool fools are saying that these were mega-games in terms of tension and competition," wrote one commentator.
Fans are sarcastic about Matytsin's words.
