Our track and field athlete made Moscow's Luzhniki listen to the Ukrainian anthem after winning the World Championships in Russia. Details

Famed Ukrainian track and field athlete Anna Melnychenko has posted a video from the historic awarding at the 2013 World Championships, which took place in Russia. Exactly 10 years ago, the then 30-year-old from Kryvyi Rih triumphed in the heptathlon.
Anna won the 800-meter race in the final stage, setting a personal record of 2.09.85 minutes. As a result, the Ukrainian scored 6586 points, winning a gold medal.
"Our blue and yellow flag was raised and the Ukrainian national anthem was played exactly 10 years ago on this day at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow/ I got goosebumps not only from the fact that my dream had come true but also from the fact that there was incredible support for our national team and all people sang our anthem loudly at that World Cup. If we had known everything back then...," Melnychenko wrote on Instagram, adding that these memories now have a deeper meaning.
Melnychenko married Oleksiy Kasyanov in 2014 and changed her last name. She was disqualified for 9 months for the use of clomiphene in 2017.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Melnychenko-Kasyanova made an emotional appeal to those Russian athletes who did not make any statement after the full-scale invasion began.
According to the champion, she received a dozen messages from Russian Federation athletes with the basic thought, "What does this have to do with us?"
