"Nobody will pay": the coach of the Russian champion "multiplied by zero" Gvozdyk with pathos
The trainer of world heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 1 KO) Gennady Mashyanov sees no point in his client fighting Oleksandr Gvozdyk (19-1, 15 KO), who recently resumed his career. The Russian boxer's coach dismissively assessed the Ukrainian and accused him of wanting to make money from such a fight.
Mashyanov said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. He noted that Bivol and Gvozdyk are at different levels, and that organising a fight between a Ukrainian and a Russian has risks in terms of security and financial return.
"Let's think about it this way - who can Hvozdyk make money in a fight? He can't make decent money with anyone, but he can with Dima. That's why he makes such statements. The question here is, who among the organisers needs such a fight? Firstly, Gvozdyk is not that interesting, no one will pay for such a confrontation... For the organisers, it goes without saying that this is a big risk, given that you won't make any money from this fight. And I don't see any risks in terms of the sporting result in this confrontation for us. Let's be clear - where is Gvozdyk and where is Bivol," Mashyanov said.
Earlier, Bivol was outraged by the decision of the World Boxing Council (WBC), which refused to sanction fights involving Russians. He decided to distance himself from the aggressor country, noting that he was born in Kyrgyzstan.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Oleksandr Gvozdyk spoke about the possibility of holding a fight against one of the Russian boxers during the war.
