Mitrofanov speaks out about UEFA

The Russian Football Union (RFU) has accused the European Football Union (UEFA) of bias against athletes from the Russian Federation. The aggressor country expressed confidence that teams from Israel should be suspended from international competitions or that Russian representatives should be reinstated.

This was stated by the Secretary General of the Russian Federation Maxim Mitrofanov in a commentary to Sport-Express. "Is UEFA's position on Israel loyal? You are right, the attitude should be the same. The basic principle declared by UEFA and FIFA is that football is outside politics. It is not being fully observed at the moment," the official said.

Readers of the Sports.ru portal called Mitrofanov's statements hypocritical. They noted that Israel and Ukraine were victims of the attack and that UEFA's attitude toward these countries is exactly the same.

"Well, yes, the situations are one in the same", "You and Hamas are treated the same", "Well, first of all, Palestine is not a member of UEFA, unlike Ukraine, so there is no difficult situation for UEFA here. Secondly, Israel didn't seem to attack anyone." "The attitude to both conflicts is absolutely the same. No one is suspending either Ukraine or Israel.", "Either Mitrofanov is a professor or he's playing a fool...", - people write in the comments.

Earlier, the former president of Lokomotiv Moscow and Torpedo Moscow, Ilya Gerkus, demanded that teams from Israel be suspended "until the end of hostilities."

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, UEFA has banned Ukrainian fans from holding a rally to remind them of Russian aggression at the match with Italy.
