Lomachenko congratulates Kovalev

Former world champion in three weight categories Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) warmly congratulated Russian Sergey Kovalev (35-4-1, 29 KOs) immediately after his fight with Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). The representative of the aggressor country, who has long lived in the United States, personally came to support the boxer from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.

The footage was posted on the Top Rank Boxing YouTube channel. The promotional company, which has been taking care of Lomachenko's affairs since his first fight in the professional ring, showed the backstage of the fight for the title of absolute lightweight champion of the world.

The video shows that on his way back to the dressing room, Vasyl met Kovalev in the arena's dressing room. The boxers were happy to see each other and hugged each other.

It is worth noting that after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kovalev spoke in favour of peace in our country, but did not condemn his country's aggression. After the Lomachenko-Haney fight, he told how the fans swore at the fight's judges.

Recall that the lightweight fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena between Haney and Lomachenko lasted all 12 rounds and ended with a unanimous decision of 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in favour of the American. It is worth noting that the judges' notes, which were published after the fight, caused fierce debate among experts and fans.

In addition, the fight's punch statistics confirm that the Ukrainian won at least five rounds. In Russia, one of the journalists called Lomachenko's boxing in the fight a disgrace.

The day before, it became known that Vasyl Lomachenko was suspended from boxing after the fight. Devin Haney himself hurled insults at the Ukrainian boxer.

The team of our compatriot demanded that international organisations announce a mandatory rematch. For his part, Lomachenko expressed confidence that it would be difficult for him to fight for the title of absolute world champion again.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, American trainer Teofimo Lopez Sr. called the result of the Lomachenko-Haney fight a disgrace to boxing. He also compared the fight's judges to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
