Lopez senior criticises Haney's victory

Lopez Sr. was furious about the result of the fight between Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) and Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). The American trainer called the victory of his compatriot unfair and a robbery not only of our boxer, but also of the entire Ukrainian people.

Lopez Sr. said this in an emotional interview with the Punsh Drunk Boxing YouTube channel. He called the unanimous decision of the judges to give the victory to Haynie in the fight on 20 May absolute corruption and reminded that Lomachenko represents Ukraine, which is opposing Russian aggression.

"This is complete shit! Corruption in all its glory. And someone has to stop it, do something. The whole world, like me, saw that it was disgusting. This is a disgrace to boxing! Ukrainians should have an absolute world champion so they can celebrate for at least an hour. At a time when they are being bombed. I say this because for me Ukrainians are very strong people. We are the ones who wake up normally here, dissatisfied when we don't get this or that. We do not understand how they live. These people live in fear every day. Lomachenko's victory would give them hope," said Teofimo's father.

The lightweight fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena between Haney and Lomachenko lasted all 12 rounds and ended with a unanimous decision of 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in favour of the American. It is worth noting that the judges' notes, which were published after the fight, caused fierce debate among experts and fans.

Russian boxer Sergey Kovalev said that fans were swearing at the judges as they left the hall after Haney's victory. In addition, the fight's punch statistics confirm that the Ukrainian won at least five rounds. In Russia, one of the journalists called Lomachenko's boxing in the fight a disgrace.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, the day before it became known that Vasyl Lomachenko was suspended from boxing after the fight. Devin Haney himself attacked the Ukrainian boxer with insults.

The team of our compatriot demanded that international organisations announce a mandatory rematch. For his part, Lomachenko expressed confidence that it would be difficult for him to fight for the title of absolute world champion again.
