"It has taken obvious forms": Russian Olympic champion complains that Russians are not loved or even tolerated
Roman Vlasov, a two-time Olympic champion, complained that Russian athletes are not loved in the world, which was allegedly the main reason for the disqualification of figure skater Kamila Valiyeva for doping. The Greco-Roman wrestler added that Russian athletes "should not count on loyal or condescending attitude."
Vlasov said this in a commentary to the propaganda news agency RIA Novosti. According to the winner of the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games, who became a confidant of dictator Vladimir Putin in the so-called March 2024 presidential elections, the Russians "gave them a reason to bite."
"Unfortunately, Russian athletes today should not count on any loyal or condescending attitude. We have to accept this and adapt. Is it news that we are not loved? It has always been so, and now this phenomenon has simply taken on obvious forms. Unfortunately, we have given them a reason to bite us, and our enemies are happy to do so. I have a lot of respect for Kamila Valiyeva, I understand what kind of work she does and how much she had to endure and overcome. Life goes on, and difficulties only make us stronger," Vlasov said.
Valiyeva was found guilty of violating anti-doping rules. After that, the Russian national team was stripped of its gold medal in the team figure skating competition at the 2022 Olympics. In response, the famous coach Tatyana Tarasova threw a real tantrum. She called the CAS judges murderers and pigs who allegedly destroyed the 17-year-old skater's career.
