"If you..." Russian rival Mahuchikh pitted against pro-Ukrainian OI champion
Russian track and field athlete Maria Lasitskene spoke out strongly against the arrival of the head of World Athletics Sebastian Coe as president of the International Olympic Committee. Our rival Yaroslava Mahuchikh accused the functionary and two-time Olympic champion in the allegedly unfair suspension of representatives of the Russian Federation from competitions.
This Lasitskene said in an interview with the propaganda news agency TASS. According to the high jumper, Coe is trying to "make athletes from only certain countries guilty of everything," insinuating that the Briton takes a very tough stance against Russian athletes. In particular, none of them were allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympics even in the so-called neutral status.
"I don't think Sebastian Coe is a good candidate for this position. If you are the head of World Athletics, you should take care of athletes all over the world, not ignore and make athletes from only certain countries guilty of everything," Lasitskene said.
Note that in late June, Coe visited Ukraine and met with President Vladimir Zelensky. "World Athletics has taken a very clear position on the admission of Russian and Belarus athletes - we said 'no'. Not for the sake of politics, but because it would be unthinkable for their athletes to compete at a time when your athletes cannot do it properly and your coaches are not around," the Briton said at the time.
