Świątek supports Ukraine

World No. 1 Iga Świątek, who won the Roland Garros French Open tennis tournament on Saturday, expressed her support for the Ukrainian people who continue to resist Russian aggression. The Polish athlete noted that the world must do everything to stop the war.

Świątek said this at a press conference after her victory over Karolina Mukhova in the final of Roland Garros 2023, Sportskeeda reports. The 22-year-old Warsaw native, who has been wearing a ribbon in the colours of the Ukrainian flag since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, added that she will continue to help our country.

"I support all Ukrainians because I know they are in a difficult situation. For example, if I were in their shoes, I don't know if I could compete, to be honest. I have a lot of respect for them and I want to focus on doing what's right for them. We, as a tennis community, need to stand together and do everything we can to stop Russian aggression," said Świątek.

It should be noted that the men's Roland Garros 2023 Cup was won by Serbian Novak Djokovic, who set a historic world tennis record.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the famous Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina responded to the fans who booed her after her defeat by Arina Sobolenko with the words "I'm not going to sell my country".
