"I promise..." Kharlan appeals to Ukrainians by posting a photo in tears
Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan admired the country's national team, which managed to reach the top 4 of the World Championships, which ended the day before in Milan, Italy. The 32-year-old sabre fencer, who was disqualified in the individual tournament, noted the character of the national team.
Kharlan wrote about this on her Instagram page. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games champion promised that Ukrainians would definitely take one of the medals at the next World Championships and thanked all the fans for their support.
"These are tears of happiness. Because we managed to overcome all this. To step out on the track and say that we can do it. We can believe in success when there is no hope. We can move on. We can fight. I'm grateful to the whole team that has been on this journey with me. Today we were very close to a medal. But we will take it. I promise. To be continued..." - Kharlan addressed the Ukrainians.
As a reminder, Olga refused to shake hands with Russian Anna Smirnova after the World Cup round of 16 match. This angered the Ukrainian's rival, who staged a real circus - she brought a chair onto the track and refused to leave the platform.
The Russian representative lodged a protest against the outcome of the duel, which was rejected. The propaganda TV channel Match TV published a photo of the denunciation that Smirnova wrote against Olga. Our sabre fencer herself said that she was simply killed by the decision to exclude her from the tournament.
It should be noted that Smirnova is not a "neutral" athlete, as required by the competition regulations. The representative of the aggressor country's brother is a military officer, and she is very proud of him, as can be seen from their joint photos.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a sensational decision regarding Olga Kharlan after the scandal at the World Fencing Championships.
