"I imagined that I was commentating for Kherson": ex-journalist of Match TV from Russia tells how sick he is of Russia

Krivokharchenko spoke out against the war

Former Match TV commentator Sergey Krivokharchenko spoke out against the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine. For a citizen of the aggressor country, which he left because of his anti-war stance, Russia's attack on a neighbouring country came as a real shock.

Krivokharchenko said this in an interview with the Novaya Gazeta Evropa newspaper. He added that he had quickly decided to stop working with the propaganda Channel Match TV and leave the country. He said that he has Ukrainian roots, and that the idea of working for a broadcast that could be seen in the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine was horrifying to him.

"It seemed impossible for me to comment as if nothing had happened. And by the way, a few weeks later, Kherson was occupied. And there was news that Russian TV channels were the first to be switched on in the occupied cities, and this package included Match TV. I imagined for a second that I was commentating on the Zenit vs Akhmat match for occupied Kherson, and I realised that I had made the right decision. I quickly realised that I would leave Russia. This war was a real shock for me. I have my surname for a reason. My father is Ukrainian. I have known the Ukrainian anthem since childhood. I could not stay in Russia after the start of a full-scale war. I was just sick to my stomach," Krivokharchenko said.

As a reminder, during the World Ice Hockey Championship, Match TV stopped broadcasting all matches of the Latvian national team after a large banner in support of Ukraine appeared on screen during the broadcast.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, former captain of the Ukrainian national football team Anatoliy Tymoshchuk is trying to obtain a Romanian passport.
