"How is it possible?" Russian Olympic champion complains about the attitude of Ukrainians to Russians

Zhurova was outraged by Mikhailov's actions

Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova has complained about the attitude of Ukrainian athletes toward Russians at international tournaments. In particular, the State Duma deputy was outraged by Vasily Mikhailov's refusal to be photographed next to a representative of the aggressor country at the 2023 World Wrestling Championships.

Zhurova said this in a commentary to the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The 2006 Turin Games champion in speed skating called the boycott by our compatriot absurd, forgetting that she fiercely supports Russia's criminal war against Ukraine.

"This is absurd. I don't know what will happen next, but the rules are already being slightly changed in favor of Ukraine so as not to put the athletes in an awkward position. We understand that any handshake is condemned in their country. So they're not allowed, but you can fight and touch each other? It's absurd. How is that possible? I remember that Ukrainians started all this during the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. They came to the award ceremony and covered the medal with their hand, any kind of medal. Those were the first symptoms, so to speak. This was their way of showing their position, saying they were unhappy that they had received this medal in Russia," Zhurova said.

Earlier, the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBI) Mikhail Mamiashvili called the refusal of Ukrainian Valentin Blesetsky to shake hands with Russian representative Abasgadzhi Magomedov at the 2023 World Cup "complete savagery ".

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the International Wrestling Federation (UWW) has amended the rules for the 2023 World Championships due to the war in Ukraine.
