He struck from behind. Ukrainian boxer wins world title by scandalous knockout

Maksym InshakovSport

Ukrainian Nazri Ragimov (11-3, 6 KOs) has won the UBO welterweight title. The 22-year-old native of Mykolaiv defeated Irving Berry (23-9-2, 10 KOs) from Panama at a boxing night in Brovary.

The success of our compatriot turned out to be scandalous. In the 10th round, the Ukrainian punched his opponent in the liver. Instead of taking a knee, the Panamanian turned away from Ragimov and went to the corner of the ring. Nazri caught up with his opponent and knocked him out with a punch to the jaw from behind.

The Panamanian's corner immediately threw in a white towel, signalling that the boxer was giving up.

A debate erupted on social media about whether the Ukrainian fighter's victory was legitimate. Many fans called Ragimov a "rat", noting that it was not fair to win like that.

At the same time, the video shows that the referee did not stop the fight, so according to the rules, Nazri had a perfectly legal right to attack.

The network also recalled that a similar incident occurred in 2020, when Mayweather defeated Ortiz with a sneaky punch to the jaw.
