Fury's promoter talks about refusing to fight Usyk for Joshua

Arum appreciated the confrontation between Usyk and Fury

The team of Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) is working on canceling the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) in order to hold a fight against Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs). Such a development seems most likely if the Gypsy King wins the fight against the Ukrainian on May 18.

This was stated in an interview with the Daily Express by the British champion's promoter Bob Arum. According to the American, the rematch between Usyk and Fury will only arouse interest among fans if the first confrontation between the boxers ends in a draw or an ambiguous victory for one of the rivals.

"If the Usyk-Fury fight is a classic, the public will definitely want to see a rematch. It will surpass the fight with Joshua and will be held in accordance with the contract. But what if this fight turns out to be one-sided and Fury wins? Then we'll sit down with the show's organizers from Saudi Arabia to discuss the details and get straight to the Fury-Joshua fight. Right now, Joshua is regaining his confidence and if this continues, he will be dangerous for anyone. That's why I choose only one fight between Usyk and Fury," Arum said.

Before that, Tyson promised to beat Usyk easily and also mentioned the war in Ukraine. In turn, Oleksandr told what he would do if the Briton refused to enter the ring on May 18.

In addition, the World Boxing Council (WBC) announced its intention to change boxing rules for the sake of the Usyk-Fury fight. And British fans suddenly began to give up on the chances of defeating the Ukrainian.

The legendary Lennox Lewis also spoke about the fight, urging not to write off the Ukrainian. In addition, the fees of Oleksandr and Tyson for the fight were announced.

Former world middleweight champion Carl Froch questioned the holding of the Usyk-Fury fight. And promoter Eddie Hearn intends to disrupt the rematch between the Ukrainian and the British.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk spoke about the problem with holding the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury on May 18.
