Famous European champion and world championship winner suddenly dies in Russia at the age of 31

The famous Russian judoka Kazbek Zankishiev, who competed in the heavyweight category (up to 100 kg), died at the age of 32, the press service of the Russian Judo Federation reports. The cause of death has not been reported.

"He was a talented athlete and a decent person. This is a real loss for Russian judo. The Russian Judo Federation expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kazbek Zankishiyev," the organization said in a statement.

In 2018, Zankishiyev won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Baku in the team event, and in 2017 he won a bronze medal at the European Adult Championships in Warsaw, Poland.

Prior to that, he won the Russian Junior Judo Championship (2011) and was a two-time champion of the Russian Youth Judo Championship (2012, 2014). In 2015, he won the European Youth Championship.
