Parents of students appealed to the authorities

Parents of students of the Dnipro Professional College of Sport wrote an open letter to the authorities over the situation with the appointment of the director of the educational institution. They demand that a democratic election of the director be held.

Basketball player Anna Markova posted the appeal on her Facebook page. She said that after the expiry of the contract, the director of the college was dismissed and appointed acting director by order of the head of the regional council. This was repeated 13 times.

The institution cannot function properly in such conditions, the athletes' parents believe.

"It's no secret that the director is responsible for the purposeful organisation of the team's work and the improvement of the material and technical base. And for this purpose, the director must be a competent, skilful, creative, experienced and modern leader. And we already have such a person - Mykhailo Lelchytskyi. This is exactly what the head of our institution should be like," the statement said.

Markova noted that Lelchytskyi has been defending the interests of children - the future of Ukrainian sport - for many years, proving his dedication to his work and building a team of true professionals. For almost 20 years, he has been living the life of his students and the staff of the institution: from honoured coaches to technical staff.

During this time, the director of the college has made a lot of efforts to create comfortable conditions for training young athletes. Over the years, he has managed to create one of the best sports facilities in Ukraine.

"We, as parents, are aware of how important it is for every child to feel protected, especially now, when the war is ongoing in the country. The manager took timely care to create safe conditions during martial law. When the sirens sound, the children sleep peacefully in a protected shelter (which they built themselves). Today, we are appealing to the current Ukrainian authorities to assist in holding democratic elections for the director of our college," the statement reads.

It should be noted that the head of the Dnipro Regional Council, Mykola Lukashuk, has already responded to the appeal. He assured that the institution would continue to function and develop. According to him, the regional council treats the college's coaching staff, as well as its students and graduates, with respect and gratitude.

"Mykhailo Naumovich will perform his duties until 30.06, after which a decision will be made whether he will remain in office or not. As I have already said, the college will continue its work, and its staff and athletes can count on our support," Lukashuk added.
