Usyk-Dubois fight ended with a knockout in the 9th round

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has confirmed that Daniel Dubois (19-2, 18 KOs) threw an illegal punch in the fifth round of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) on 26 August. The organisation categorically declared the Ukrainian champion's victory, noting that after a pause due to a rule violation, he simply destroyed his opponent.

This is stated on the official WBA website, which describes what happened in the ring on Saturday night in Wroclaw, Poland. The association confirmed the correctness of the decision of referee Luis Pabon, which the British boxer's team intends to appeal.

"During the fight, there was a dramatic moment when Dubois landed a punch below the belt that sent Usyk to the canvas. The area he hit caused controversy over the legitimacy of the blow, but the referee determined that it was a low blow and gave Usyk the necessary recovery time to continue the fight. After the forbidden punch, the Ukrainian changed his attitude to the fight and became more aggressive, scoring two knockdowns and winning in the ninth round," the WBA said.
