"Being picked up off the street is no motivation." Stakhovskyi speaks about mobilization in Ukraine

Famous Ukrainian tennis player Serhii Stakhovskyi said that it is important for Ukraine to find the right and motivating words for Ukrainians to serve in the Armed Forces. According to the former athlete, forced mobilization is not correct.

"Because when you are picked up off the street, it is not motivation, it is just some kind of punishment. What could be the motivation now? It could be different. At least it could be related to some specific term of [service]," Stakhovskyi was quoted as saying by UP.

Serhii also tried to answer the question of how long he thinks the war with Russia will last.

"I don't have the information that the government has, so it's hard for me to say. But it is getting harder for us morally. Because the military, who have not changed for a year and a half or two years and see a picture in front of them that they will return home either wounded or dead, are not enthusiastic," the former activist added.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, Stakhovskyi expressed confidence that it is necessary to make sure that those who go to serve in the Armed Forces understand what they are signing up for.

On January 17, Stakhovskyi expressed the opinion that Ukrainian athletes would do more good for the country by competing in international tournaments than by fighting in the trenches.

Earlier, Stakhovskyi, who joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, advised those compatriots who believe that the front is far away to prepare for war.
