Bear the responsibility: sports legend calls on the IOC to answer for the war in Ukraine
The legendary Czech hockey goaltender Dominik Hasek was outraged by the election of Russian Alisher Usmanov as president of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). The Stanley Cup winner called on the International Olympic Committee to respond to the situation.
Hasek wrote about this on his page on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter. The Nagano 98 Olympic champion noted that the FIE did not join the suspension of Russian athletes after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, thus supporting the aggression.
"The head of the World Fencing Federation is a Russian citizen. This sports federation allows Russian citizens to compete and thus makes a huge advertisement for the Russian imperialist war and Russian crimes. Because of this sports federation, many people have been killed and injured in the Russian war in Ukraine. Will the IOC express its position? Fencing is a part of the IOC, and therefore the IOC bears its share of responsibility for the lives lost and maimed," Hasek said.
Recently, Dominic spoke angrily about American entrepreneur Elon Musk after he ridiculed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and our entire country.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Dominik Hasek has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine. After a trip to Kyiv and Kharkiv last summer, he recorded a video message to Ukrainians, wishing them to "drive away the Russian sh*t." In addition, Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov threw a real tantrum over the Czech's remarks.
