In Nizhny Novgorod, before the Russian Premier League football championship match with Ural, a local club decided to set a world record for the number of people in kokoshniks dancing around the football field.

According to the press service of Nizhny Novgorod, "the protocol service of the World Records Book came to the city to record the record, and video cameras were placed around the perimeter of the stadium."

The event was dedicated to a "historic day": 23 years ago, on December 2, 2010, it was announced that the 2018 FIFA World Cup would be held in Russia.

Fans in the comments ridiculed this record.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) did not include the Russian national team in the draw for the Nations League for the 2024/25 season, according to a release on the organization's website. This means the team's automatic non-participation in the tournament.

After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 28, 2022, UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended Russian clubs and national teams from participating in international matches.

In total, the Russian national team has played 11 friendly matches since the sanctions began. It won four of them, lost one, and drew six more.
