A loud scandal in Poland. A Russian hockey player turned out to be a spy and was sentenced to prison

Russian hockey player Maxim Sergeev was sentenced in Poland to 2 years and 11 months for espionage. The 21-year-old native of Kazan was also fined 5,200 zlotys (1,220 euros).

According to hokej.net, Sergeev, who played for the Polish hockey club Zaglembe Sosnowiec, turned out to be an agent of Russian intelligence. The young defenseman led a double life: during the day, he played in youth leagues, and at night, he performed tasks for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

In the video, Sergeev is wearing number 12 in a white uniform, after the team's overall failure on offense.

Maksym was recruited via Telegram and initially published propaganda materials on social media for a cryptocurrency reward. Later, however, his tasks became more and more serious. He photographed strategically important objects such as the railway station in Przemyśl and military industry facilities in southern Poland.

Polish intelligence services detained a hacker spy after finding materials related to the Russian Wagner group on a computer. During the investigation, it turned out that Maksym was part of a spy network run by a certain "Andrey." In total, the group consisted of 16 people, 14 of whom have already been detained.

The hockey player pleaded guilty and entered into a plea deal with the investigation, which allowed him to avoid the maximum sentence of 10 years for espionage in Poland. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

On May 26, 2025, Sergeev will be deported to Russia. Until then, he will serve his sentence in the Lublin prison.
