Famous Ukrainian boxer Sergiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KOs) lost to Jaime Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) and could not win the vacant WBC Silver belt in the welterweight division. The fight in California ended by unanimous decision of judges in favor of 26-year old Mexican: 115-112, 114-113, 114-113.

The 37-year-old native of Feodosia got off to a great start. Sergiy worked at number one. The Mexican tried to escalate the situation, but got into an exchange. Already in the second round the situation changed and more went to the Ukrainian. Derevyanchenko tried to emphasize smart boxing, but by the 4th round he began to run out of steam.

Our compatriot could have turned the tide in the 5th three minutes when he started just beating his opponent. Munguia was in a groggy state, but he never got in the ring.

Derevyanchenko didn't have enough energy for the championship rounds. He was missing a lot, and in the final minutes he fell into knockdown mode, going into survival mode.

As a result, Sergiy suffered his 5th loss in his last 7 games.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, before this fight at the weigh-in ceremony the ring announcer announced Sergiy as a boxer "from Crimea, Ukraine".
