3 penalties in 15 minutes in one goal: interesting UPL records

Shakhtar Donetsk had a very successful 2023/2024 season. The club became the Ukrainian champion for the 15th time. In 30 matches, the miners scored 71 points and celebrated 22 victories. The champion scored 63 goals against opponents and conceded almost three times less - 24.

Having defeated Vorskla Poltava 2-1 in the final of the Ukrainian Cup, the Donetsk team won the trophy for the 14th time. In this respect, Shakhtar are ahead of Dynamo, who have 13 triumphs in the cup tournament. At the same time, Shakhtar won the trophy for the first time since 2019, while Dynamo last won the Ukrainian Cup in 2021.

For Donetsk, the golden double was the eighth in their history. The Kyiv team has won the league and the Ukrainian Cup 9 times in one season. Only these two clubs in our football have achieved such success.

Artem continues to upset goalkeepers

Artem Dovbyk, a forward for Dnipro-1 and the Ukrainian national team, was named the best player of the UPL in the 2022/2023 season. He also became the top scorer of that Ukrainian championship, scoring 24 goals in 30 games.

Artem continued to demonstrate his scoring skills in the Spanish Girona, which won the bronze medal in the Primera Division. 85 goals were scored by the team, and 24 (!) of them were scored by the Ukrainian. With this figure, Dovbyk became the top scorer in the Spanish league, ahead of Serlot (Villarreal) - 23 and Bellingham (Real Madrid) - 19.

We wish Dovbik the same productive performance in the Italian league as he plays for the already titled Roma in Rome.

It's not worth arguing with the referee

I am sure you have noticed that in the case of controversial moments in Euro 2024 matches, the players, as often happened before, did not run up to the referee and surround him, trying to prove something. The fact is that on the eve of the tournament, UEFA introduced new rules for communication between players and referees in matches in Germany. According to the new rules, only the team captain can communicate with the head referee and side referees. If the captain is a goalkeeper, the team will designate a player to communicate with the chief referee.

Players who violate this rule will be penalized with yellow cards without fail. Roberto Rosetti, the head of the UEFA Referees Committee, commented on this innovation: "We want the referees to be able to calmly make decisions that may seem wrong to the players. But the referee still has the final say. Referees receive a lot of information from VAR, they are ready to share these details with captains, to explain why a particular decision was made. There should be a healthy atmosphere on the pitch during the match, the players should trust and respect the referee - just like the fans."

It would be nice to introduce such an innovation in the Ukrainian championship...

Three penalties in a row

In one of the Ukrainian league matches, Vorskla striker Taulian Seferi missed three penalties within 15 minutes. Kharkiv Metalist suffered in the 2022/2023 season, and in the end, the Poltava team won the match 3-2. It's unlikely that this will ever happen again in the Ukrainian championship.
