Seasonal allergies and their faithful companions – runny nose, watery eyes, itchy or sore throat, puffy eyes, headaches and irritability – are not the best harbingers of the warm season, interfering with the full life of many people. Are there any ways to tame allergies? Tetiana Dziuba, an expert at Farmak Pharmaceutical Company, helped Oboz.ua editorial board to understand this issue.

"The fight against allergies should be started before the first symptoms appear – so to speak, to be proactive. Moreover, it is extremely easy to follow these recommendations – they do not require any extraordinary efforts," says Tetiana.

Tetiana Dziuba also gave three tips to help reduce the impact of allergens on the body.

Avoid triggers

The first and most important step in the fight against seasonal allergies is to limit exposure to triggers. Therefore, it is worth taking tests in advance to help identify allergens.

Keep track of pollen counts

On the Internet, you can find daily reports on the amount of pollen in your city or region. On days when the pollen content in the air is high, you can follow simple rules:

  • Spend less time outdoors.
  • Wear a mask and sunglasses when outdoors.
  • Take a shower after every time you are outside.
  • Prevent symptoms with medication.

Close the windows

Closed windows will help limit the amount of allergens that enter the home. Of course, you don't have to give up ventilation completely, just wait until lunchtime or evening when the amount of pollen in the air is lower.

"But the best way to get rid of seasonal allergies is to take antihistamines. Your family doctor will help you choose the right medicine. After all, even over-the-counter medicines should be taken as prescribed by a specialist," says Tetiana Dziuba.

For example, Edem will help to eliminate the symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis. The medicine is also available in the form of a syrup that eliminates symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy and stuffy nose, as well as itchy and red eyes, watery eyes, itchy palate and cough.

"For kids, you should choose medicines labeled 'for children' because the developing body requires a lower concentration of the active ingredient," the expert adds.

For example, "Edermic" is a drug used for the symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergies.
