Objectives and principles of Obozrevatel's work

Since its inception in 2001, Obozrevatel media portal has been guided by the principles of objective, critical and independent journalism to cover events in Ukraine and around the world. The Obozrevatel staff adheres to the ethics of journalism that has been developed in Ukraine over the years. The publication primarily serves the interests of society.

Our materials have repeatedly raised discussions in society, forced the authorities to respond to problems and helped resolve critical situations. Obozrevatel takes an objective stance in covering events and does not take sides in its reporting.

A separate link and priority in our work is respect for democratic values, human rights and freedoms, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and the need to protect it from any external aggression. The publication's information policy is always based on the protection of national interests and defends the position of Ukraine and its people.

In addition, the reader's opinion is important to us. The editorial board of the portal always listens to objective comments and observations on our work.

Reliability of information, verification of facts and sources:

Our editors and journalists thoroughly check the accuracy of information and facts before publishing materials and clearly distinguish them from the opinions and positions of individuals. In their work, our employees use both open and proprietary information channels to establish the reliability of facts and analyze them. Before publication, the material goes through several stages of approval.

Ethical standards

The media portal does not support any form of propaganda of violence, hatred and discrimination. Honor, dignity and privacy are key for us. That is why we do not allow for the publication of offensive, xenophobic, racist, religious, slanderous statements about sexual orientation, physical or mental illness, or any other types of opinions that pose a threat to human honor and dignity.

Credibility

In our work, we try to cover events comprehensively. To do this, we involve experts in various fields in our commentaries, publish opinions of professionals in their fields so that the reader can objectively analyze a particular situation and form their own view of it.

Privacy

We respect and respect the principle of privacy and adhere to it. However, in certain high-profile events, we take the side of society and reserve the right to publish information about public figures.

Anonymity

We work carefully with our sources of information and reserve the right to confidentiality of sources with whom we have such an agreement. In any case, the source of information should be presented in the materials as fully as possible (taking into account each individual situation).

Policy on conflict of interest

The company's employees must disclose personal, ideological, financial interests, as well as participation in the activities of various organizations that may adversely affect the reputation of the portal. We also avoid any conflict of interest that may be caused by personal reasons or family circumstances of our employees. A staff or freelance employee may not express his or her own position in the preparation of material.

Policy on the use of official position

Employees may not use their official position for their own benefit or for the benefit of others.

Policy on the use of social networks

The Company encourages employees to use and update their private social media accounts both for public and private purposes.

For its part, information in social media posts should not discriminate against people based on race, skin color, political, religious and other beliefs, gender, ethnic and social origin, property status, place of residence, language or other characteristics. The publication of materials inciting ethnic or religious hatred, propaganda of violence, as well as justification and support of armed aggression against Ukraine is not allowed.

On their own pages, the employees also express their own opinions on the processes and events taking place in the world. The dissemination of the portal's position in private accounts must be approved by the editorial board.

Obozrevatel formats

News

This is an update on an event that we believe is important for the portal's readers. The material should contain comprehensive information about the event with the facts currently available. Photos, videos (if available) and an indication of the source of information are required.

Articles

A material prepared by a journalist that analyzes an event/process, with the publication of expert opinions and comments. The article contains infographics, photos, videos, documents (if necessary). Articles can be expert (involving specialists in their field) and editorial (representing the editorial position on important events of high profile). In some cases, authors are allowed to use pseudonyms (for their own safety).

Interviews

A conversation between Obozrevatel journalists and a person of public interest. When choosing speakers for interviews, the editorial board is guided by the importance and relevance of the topic and person to our readers. We do not approve texts (only if it concerns fact-checking) and reserve the right to remove information that degrades the honor and dignity of a person or is not related to the topic of the interview.

Blitz interview / commentary

A short conversation with a speaker on a topic of current interest.

Blogs/opinions

Blogs by authors with whom the editorial board cooperates and trusts. The editorial staff is not responsible for the content of blogs. The editorial opinion may differ from the author's.

Infographics

Visual presentation of information, analysis of certain processes and trends.

Videos / video interviews

Recording of videos by the portal's video team on relevant and important topics.

Interaction with readers

Obozrevatel works for its readers and is constantly improving to meet their information needs. The contacts section on the website's home page contains a phone number and email address where you can contact the editorial team.

We give the reader the right to express their position on a particular event. Comments are moderated, and those that humiliate the honor and dignity of a person, incite hostility in society, or support aggression against Ukraine are deleted.

Interaction with advertisers

Advertising materials posted on the portal may be marked with the symbol (A). The advertiser is responsible for the accuracy and content of the advertisement.

Interaction with bloggers

We independently decide on the opening of blogs on our portal. In our choice, we are guided by the authority and reputation of the person, public interest in the opinions expressed by the author.

Media partnerships

Obozrevatel has repeatedly acted as a media partner of events that are of public interest, interesting to our audience and contribute to the establishment and maintenance of the publication's reputation. As part of the information partnership, we reserve the right to the content. In the course of cooperation, only the number and format of materials are discussed.
