Zelenskyy meets with Baerbock in Kyiv: they talked about air defense and European integration. Photos and videos

On Tuesday, May 21, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Kyiv with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who arrived in the capital on an unannounced visit. The parties discussed Ukraine's priority defense needs and Ukraine's progress toward EU membership.

This was reported by the press service of the President's Office. Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a video of the meeting on his Telegram account.

The Head of State informed the German Foreign Minister on the situation at the frontline and the needs of Ukraine in air defense.

Particularly, the parties discussed the joint initiative of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Germany on the search for additional Patriot and other air defense systems for Ukraine. The meeting also touched upon the fact that additional German anti-aircraft missile systems will soon be defending Ukrainian skies.

"Thank you for your help in protecting our independence, European way of life, and our people from Russian terror," the President said.

For her part, the German foreign minister said that everything her country does for Ukraine is also for peace in Europe. Baerbock emphasized that the West should do much more.

"I have just returned from a coal-fired power plant, trying to show Europe again what this war means. To see people rebuilding after just one month is just incredible. So what we are doing is for the people of Ukraine, but also for the European peace order. So, there is no need to be grateful. At the same time, I see that much more needs to be done in terms of support at the global level," Baerbock said.

During the meeting, the parties also separately discussed Ukraine's movement towards EU membership and the organization of the International Conference on Ukraine's Recovery (URC 2024), which will be held in June in Berlin, and coordinated steps to fill it with specific projects.

It is worth noting that Annalena Baerbock is on her seventh visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

For outstanding personal achievements in strengthening interstate cooperation, support for Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, the President awarded German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, III degree.
