Zelensky in Vilnius told what security guarantees should be for Ukraine

The agreements are planned to be concluded at the bilateral level

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Kiev currently has no legally enshrined security guarantees from its partners. The relevant agreements are planned to be concluded at the bilateral level - with each security guarantor country.

Zelensky told about this during a press conference in Vilnius. "We have no real security guarantee from our partners, I mean legally. We have actual security guarantees, such as financial, sanctions, defense. This could be the first legal document that symbolizes that we have such an umbrella of security guarantees," he said.

According to him, the security guarantee documents will include "all those things that we have or that we lack."

"These things will be at the bilateral level. This document allows other partners, except for the G7 countries, to join," the president explained.

Zelensky emphasized that he does not consider the Budapest Memorandum as security guarantees.

"I don't understand any responsibility in it, I don't see any specifics there. Apart from the fact that Ukraine was with this document and was left alone. On the way to NATO, we would like to have the guarantees that we have now and to have them permanently," he said.

The President added that Kyiv wants to have "an appropriate document so that the assistance is prescribed and concrete."

"Today's framework declaration of security guarantees opens the possibility of these bilateral powerful documents," the head of state said.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL:

- July 12 in Vilnius started the second day of the NATO summit. The Ukrainian delegation continued bilateral talks with partners regarding the strengthening of the Ukrainian army on the battlefield.

- Zelensky called the results of the summit good, but according to him, they would have been ideal if Ukraine had received an invitation to the Alliance.
