The Parliament supported the request to deprive MP Boiko of the title of Hero of Ukraine
The Verkhovna Rada has proposed to deprive MP Yurii Boiko of the title of Hero of Ukraine. 232 parliamentarians voted in favor of the decision.
The request is addressed to the President of Ukraine. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak on Telegram.
In addition to Boiko, the MPs propose that the head of state take away the title of "Hero of Ukraine" from a number of other politicians. Zhelezniak is surprised that Boiko still holds this title.
"The Rada supported the request of my colleague Roman Lozynskyi to the President of Ukraine to strip MP Boiko of the title of Hero of Ukraine. There are many more names in the request to deprive him of the award. What or who exactly is preventing the President from doing this himself remains unanswered," the MP wrote.
MP Boiko was awarded the title of "Hero of Ukraine" in 2004. The politician was honored for "outstanding personal services to the Ukrainian state in the development of the fuel and energy complex and many years of dedicated work."
As a reminder, on December 19, members of the Verkhovna Rada recalled pro-Russian MP Yurii Boiko from the position of a member of the Human Rights Committee at the second attempt.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, at a meeting on December 18, the MPs lacked nine votes to recall Boyko from the Human Rights Committee. The vote was supported by only 217 MPs out of the required 226. According to media reports, some MPs left the session hall during the vote.
Earlier it was reported that a loud scandal erupted in Ukraine because of a video that Boiko posted on social media. In it, the former Party of Regions member repeated Russian propaganda about the alleged "rampage of radicals" in Ukraine and other narratives. On December 17, Boiko was summoned to the SSU. During the interrogation, he apologized for his scandalous statements and called Kremlin head Vladimir Putin a war criminal.
