"A long way to go": Hungarian Foreign Minister on Zelenskyy and Orban's possible meeting

Szijjártó explains when Zelenskyy and Orbán might meet

Hungary seems to be in no hurry to establish good neighborly relations with Ukraine. The country's government said that there is still a long way to go before Prime Minister Viktor Orbán meets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This statement was made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó Péter on Tuesday, January 30, during a briefing, Reuters reported. The briefing was organized a day after the minister met with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Uzhhorod.

Answering journalists' questions, Szijjártó said that there is a long way to go before Viktor Orbán and Volodymyr Zelenskyy meet. According to him, if Ukraine fulfills Hungary's conditions, it will create a "clean slate" in bilateral relations and allow for a meeting at the highest level.

As a reminder, on Monday, January 29, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and the head of the Presidential Administration Andrii Yermak met with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in Uzhhorod. The parties began negotiations to normalize Ukrainian-Hungarian relations.
