What happened to the Ukrainian national team before the Olympics was called "absurd" and "a great football disgrace"
Stefan Reshko, a four-time USSR champion with Dynamo Kyiv, is outraged that Ukraine is not sending its strongest team to the Paris Olympics. According to the 77-year-old former Dynamo player, the situation defies logical explanation.
"This is a great football shame. For 32 years, football Ukraine could not win a ticket to the Olympics. And after it received the license, it sends not the strongest team. This is absurd. And this is despite the fact that we are a country at war and must show our strength at the Olympic Games, Express quoted Reshko as saying.
The expert has the impression that Andriy Shevchenko is not in charge of Ukrainian football.
"I have big claims to the clubs as well. Why do you train players but don't let them play under the blue and yellow flag? And this is at a time when, for example, Argentina is taking three reigning world champions to the Olympics," Reshko summarized.
They did not go to the 2024 Olympics: Ruslan Neshcheret, Nazar Voloshyn, Volodymyr Brazhko, Vladyslav Vanat and Kostyantyn Vivcharenko (all Dynamo), Heorhiy Sudakov, Artem Bondarenko (both Shakhtar), Oleksandr Nazarenko (Polissya), Mykhailo Mudryk (Chelsea), Anatoliy Trubin (Benfica), Yegor Yarmolyuk (Brentford) and Ivan Zhelezko (Lechia Gdansk).
