"We'll start exploring our options next year": Lomachenko's manager made a statement about his ward

Ukrainian boxer lost to Devin Haney in May

Former world champion in three categories, 35-year-old Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) will return to the ring in 2024. This statement was made by the Ukrainian boxer's manager Egis Klimas in an interview with FightHubTV.

According to the American Lithuanian, Vasyl was greatly affected by his defeat to Devin Haney in May 2023. Lomachenko could have become the absolute lightweight champion but lost on points. At the time, unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) called it a robbery of the Ukrainian.

"We expect him to come back sometime next year. After this 'defeat' (in quotes) as we say, he just said that he's not going to do anything for the rest of this year. He's taking it easy, doing his own thing at home. When the next year comes, we will start exploring possible options," Klimas on Lomachenko's plans.

At the same time, Egis emphasized that his ward is determined to become a champion again:

"We're not going to fight just for the sake of fighting. He wants to fight for the title, so let's see what we can do," Vringe quoted Egis as saying.

Currently, Australian George Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) is considered the most likely candidate for Lomachenko's opponent. According to Klimas, Vasyl may well travel to Australia for this fight.

It should be noted that another promoter of the Ukrainian boxer, Bob Arum, had previously announced that Lomachenko was not going to retire. The head of Top Rank was surprised by such talk (of Lomachenko's retirement) as "there hasn't been a single fight that would call into question Vasyl's high level."
