WBA announces its verdict on Dubois' appeal against the result of the fight with Usyk
The World Boxing Association (WBA) has rejected the appeal of Daniel Dubois' (19-2, 18 KOs) team against the result of the fight with Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) on August 26. Representatives of the British boxer intended to have the result of the fight canceled due to the actions of referee Luis Pabon, who recorded a punch below the Usyk's belt in the fifth round of the fight.
This is stated on the WBA's official website. The organization noted that it had carefully studied all the videos and photos provided, but found nothing illegal in the actions of the judge. At the same time, representatives of other boxing federations that supervised the fight came to similar conclusions.
The WBA emphasized that the decision to recognize a punch as illegitimate is solely within the competence of the referee. Dubois' team was unable to provide any evidence that would call into question the actions of Pabon, who recorded a violation of the rules by the Briton and gave Usyk time to recover.
Thus, the outcome of the Usyk-Dubois fight remains unchanged: the victory of our champion by technical knockout in the ninth round. The Ukrainian remains undefeated in the professional ring.
On September 29, Oleksandr signed a contract to fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion with the British Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs). According to media reports, the fight of the year will take place before the new year or early next year.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) has demanded that Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury fight. In turn, the British father John named a boxer who could knock out the Ukrainian in a minute.
