Usyk-Fury rematch faces new problems: what is the issue

Oleksandr ChekanovNews
Peeples speaks about the situation with Usyk

The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has not yet decided whether the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) will be held for the organization's belt and, accordingly, the title of absolute world champion. The second fight between the Ukrainian and the British is scheduled for the end of this year, and new controversies have arisen around it.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, IBF President Daryl J. Peoples noted that it was too early to talk about the status of the Usyk-Fury rematch. It was assumed that the Ukrainian would be immediately deprived of the organization's belt after the fight on May 18. However, the IBF first gave Croatian Filip Hrgovic (17-1, 14 KOs) the opportunity to fight for the interim title, and then he lost to Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs).

Now the Briton will fight his compatriot Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) this fall. "I don't want to speculate because I haven't discussed with anyone where the heavyweight division is headed yet. Dubois is now the interim champion and a mandatory contender. It's still too early to say whether Joshua-Dubois will fight for the full belt," Peeples said.
