"Unprecedented lawlessness": Russian Olympic champion accused IOC of "destroying Russian sport"

Olympic champion Sergei Tetyukhin is outraged by Russia's suspension from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The former volleyball player and winner of the 2012 Games was furious over the decision and accused the organization of "unprecedented lawlessness."

Tetyukhin said this in a comment to the TASS news agency. The 2002 world vice-champion repeated Kremlin propaganda narratives about the so-called red lines and the impossibility of politicizing sports, and complained about the world's intentions to "destroy Russian sport."

"It is an unprecedented lawlessness, there are no borders and no red lines. This idea of destroying Russian sports has been around for a long time, and it is still alive. It means that the political pressure is bigger than some healthy and professional beliefs. Everything has changed, and there is no feeling that sport is about justice and equality. It has been overlapped by politics," Tetyukhin said.

It should be noted that the IOC suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) because Russia had illegally included the councils of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine in its membership.

Former world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev threw a tantrum over IOC's decision, saying "we will defeat these freaks."

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia's suspension from the IOC leads to "corrosion of the entire world sport." She was mocked online.
