Ukrainian Olympic biathlon champion refused to start the World Cup race
Olympic biathlon relay champion (Sochi 2014) Yulia Dzhima did not take part in the women's pursuit race at the 4th stage of the World Cup, which is currently taking place in Oberhof. In the start list, her name was marked DNS (Not Starting). The reasons for her refusal to compete are unknown at the time of publication.
The 34-year-old from Kyiv was supposed to start 14th, more than a minute behind the leader.
Only two athletes will represent Ukraine at the track in Germany: Khrystyna Dmytrenko, who started from 40th place, and Daryna Chalyk, who is ranked 56th. The girls are expected to try to improve their results compared to the last sprint.
After three stages of the World Cup, the Ukrainian national team is ranked fifth in the men's Nations Cup standings and ninth in the women's. The best result among Ukrainians in the overall World Cup standings is Yulia Dzhyma, who is in 18th place.
It should be noted that a similar situation occurred a year ago. On January 9, 2024, Yulia refused to compete at the European Championships due to a discrepancy with her training plan.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the day before, Olympic champion and 6-time world biathlon champion Sturla Legreid, together with his countryman Martin Uldahl (winner of the World Youth Championships), supported Ukrainian biathlete Dmytro Pidruchnyi. During the flower ceremony after the sprint, the Norwegians took the flag of Ukraine.
