Roman KostyuchenkoNews
Rheinmetall starts cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry

The joint production of armored vehicles by Ukraine and the largest German arms concern Rheinmetall is planned for the near future. The production will be located in Ukraine.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. He reminded that

  • The cooperation between the Ukrainian defense industry and German Rheinmetall was launched in October;
  • the joint venture "is already producing artillery shells for Ukraine and receiving new orders."

"In the near future, Ukraine and the German arms concern Rheinmetall plan to launch the production of armored vehicles on their territory. This is a flagship project to unite the forces of Ukraine and European armorers to achieve a just peace and for our common security," the statement said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that in the future Ukraine intends to continue to engage in technology transfer. And in addition, to invest in:

  • design development
  • new production;
  • Military Tech (military technologies).

Russia's threats ignored

In October, Rheinmetall established a joint venture with the Ukrainian Defense Industry (formerly Ukroboronprom). The joint venture will service and repair equipment that Ukraine has received from its partners.

In an interview with CNN, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger explained that in the future the company will produce tanks and other armored vehicles and train Ukrainians to maintain them. "Ukrainians have to help themselves. If they always have to wait for the Europeans or Americans to help them for the next 10 or 20 years... It's impossible," Papperger said.

He also emphasized that despite former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's threats that "Russia will strike at any Rheinmetall facility in Ukraine," the company can be protected from attacks. "There are a lot of plants that produce military products [in Ukraine]. This is just another one, and we can protect it," he said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Rheinmetall is also working on creating a service center for military equipment that is being transferred to Ukraine as part of military aid from Western countries. Such a center will be located in Romania, Ukraine's neighbor.
