WBC heavyweight titleholder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) at a press conference in Morkham, England, recalled his injury in training camp, which led to the cancellation of his fight with WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). Initially, the mega-fight for the absolute championship was scheduled for February 17, but the Briton was cut on February 2 and the fight was officially postponed to the spring of 2024.

After that, the head of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Entertainment, Turki Al Al-Sheikh, came up with a "fuse" to prevent such a situation in the future. The Arab official said that Usyk or Tyson would face a $10 million fine if either of them refused to perform.

"I was a little depressed at first, the first day or so. But then, like everything in life, I realized that God's timing is perfect, perfect. It is neither too late nor too early – everything is on time. It wasn't my time to fight for the championship then, but it will happen on May 18," Fury was quoted as saying by Eurosport.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Usyk-Fury fight will be officiated by neutral judges. At the same time, when appointing them, the teams of both boxers have the right to veto the referees whose competence is in doubt.

Before that, Viktor Fesechko had always worked the two fights between Usyk and Joshua. It should be noted that the head of the WBC came up with the idea of approving six judges at once, not three, to score the fight between Usyk and Fury. He predicted a disaster in the fight if his proposal was not supported.

In turn, former world champion Carl Froch, a middleweight champion, questioned the holding of the Usyk – Fury fight. It became known what advice Volodymyr Klychko gave to Oleksandr. Also, the USSR champion Yurii Arbachakov expressed confidence that the Ukrainian would have to take risks in the fight.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk spoke about the problem with holding the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury on May 18. The Ukrainian boxer himself named the main strength of the opponent.
