"This is not a fitness competition": Fury makes confession before Usyk fight

Usyk and Fury will fight in February

The owner of the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt, Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), has admitted that his active preparation for the fight against Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will not last more than five weeks. The Gypsy King, as the Briton is called, noted that entering the ring is not a test of physical fitness.

Fury said this during a meeting with Usyk as part of The Gloves Are Off program on TNT Sports, the portal Boхing Social writes. According to the Manchester native, boxing skills do not depend on how much time a fighter spends in the gym or how many rounds of sparring he or she does.

"I don't start training long before the fights. I prepare for them for four to five weeks. How much training does a man need? Three to four weeks of sparring and one week of rest. And that's it – the preparation is done. We've been boxing all our lives since we were teenagers. How much training do we need? I'm sure we won't forget how to box. And it's not a fitness competition, is it? So I don't think we need more than five weeks of training," Fury said.
