The scene from the movie "Rust", which led to Alec Baldwin's accusation of murdering Ukrainian woman Halyna Hutchins, was cut. What is known
The scandalous movie "Rust", during the filming of which actor Alec Baldwin killed Ukrainian cameraman Halyna Hutchins in October 2021, may soon be released, but in a modified version. The movie plans to remove the scene in which the man was about to point a revolver at the camera. During its rehearsal, he accidentally shot a woman.
Alec Baldwin plays the main role in the western. The team couldn't bear to release the long-suffering movie, so they decided to simply cut the scandalous scene. An insider told People magazine about this.
He explained that the script was partially rewritten before filming resumed in 2023. Now it will be impossible to see the shootout in the church in the new version.
"They cut out the scene in the church that they were rehearsing and rewrote it a bit. It's a good movie. It looks like a big studio movie," the insider said.
It is known that during the tragic moment, which later ended in the death of the cameraman, the cameras were not working. At the time, the film crew was setting up a special blocking device for the church scene while Baldwin was rehearsing the spectacular gun pull. He had previously stated that he did not pull the trigger and did not know that the revolver was loaded with real bullets.
The filming of the movie was suspended almost immediately after the murder of Halyna Hutchins but resumed 1.5 years later. The Ukrainian woman was replaced on the set by cameraman Bianca Kline.
What is known about the case
Cameraman Halyna Hutchins was shot dead on the set of the film "Rust" on October 21, 2021. The Ukrainian woman died after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. The bullet also hit director Joel Seuss, who was standing behind her. The man was injured but survived.
In April 2023, Alec Baldwin was acquitted of manslaughter charges in the death of Halyna Hutchins. Then the filming of the movie continued. Later, the prosecutor's office found evidence again. After an examination of the revolver used by the actor, the investigation resumed on the grounds of negligent use of firearms and disrespect for the safety of others. Baldwin faced up to 18 months in prison.
On March 6, 2024, a New Mexico jury found gunman Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a Ukrainian cameraman. On July 12, all charges were dropped against Alec Baldwin, and his lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the case.
The family of Halyna Hutchins cannot accept the court's decision and says they will "fight to the end." The family and the widower of the cameraman will try to bring the actor to justice again.
