Our athlete will compete at the Olympic Games for the third time in her career

Multiple Jamaican track and field champion and current national record holder in the hammer throw, Nayoka Clunis, will miss the 2024 Olympics in Paris because the Jamaica Athletics Association (JAAA) failed to enter her in the Games. The JAAA stated that this error was caused by Hurricane Beryl, which hit the country in early July.

According to the JAAA, their system did not have electricity and Internet access during those days to add the athlete's name to the list of participants in the 2024 Olympics.

"We are deeply saddened that this situation has arisen and are working hard in the hope that World Athletics and the IOC will find a way to allow Cloonis to participate in the Olympic Games," the JAAA said.

Clunis appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but it was rejected.

"CAS cannot resolve the issue of the case with Clooney because the court does not have jurisdiction to hear the case. In addition, the situation arose after the 10-day window for Olympic-related disputes," CAS said in a statement.

The quota that the Jamaican athlete was supposed to use was given to Iryna Klymets.

This will be the third Olympics in a row for the 29-year-old native of Volyn.

At the previous two in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, our hammer thrower failed to qualify.

In the summer of 2022, Klymets made a splash at the European Championships held in Munich. The entire Olympic Stadium applauded for several minutes because of her stunning appearance.
